THE SPRING CAMPAIGN FOR "THE OLNEY EMBRACE PROJECT"

2021 has arrived, and in this new year, Olney Culture Lab remains committed to highlighting and celebrating our unique neighborhood and its diverse cultures. We're working hard to "embrace" Philadelphia's Olney community. Will you partner with us?

Spring is a time of renewal and refreshment. As we kick off the new year, Olney Culture Lab continues its pandemic-inspired journey to re-think and re-imagine the ways we celebrate and showcase the cultural richness and diversity of the Olney neighborhood in Philadelphia.

Launched in fall of 2020, "The Olney Embrace Project" (TOEP) is a multi-disciplinary, multi-location exploration of the Olney community, its residents, and its diverse cultures, creative practices, and stories. The project is discovering new ways to bring about meaningful arts and cultural engagement through the end of 2021.

TOEP safely activates well-known neighborhood locations, such as the North 5th Street business corridor, Fisher Park and Tacony Creek Park. The project also aspires to elevate the entire community’s sense of potential, positive identity, social-civic wellness, and pride.

Working with a team of incredibly talented and distinguished artists, dancers and musicians from Philadelphia (many from Olney itself) TOEP is a catalyst for creating works that explore and shine a light on the beauty and complexity of Olney, as a unique place to live, work and play.

We are prioritizing creative works that are responsive to the evolving health and safety concerns of the pandemic. As conditions improve, we will support and create in-person presentations, workshops, exhibitions, and traditional performances, along with our expanding array of online, digital and virtual broadcasts and productions. We also plan to launch some innovative "out-of-the-box" efforts, and look forward to collaborating with members of the local community to uniquely and creatively address some of the challenges that have heightened during pandemic, such as food insecurity, limited access to physical activity and the natural environment, and meaningful outlets to express and expel the impacts of common and pandemic-related stress.
